Diabetes and Stroke Self Management Made Easy

Why did I start Tenda Health?

Addiction is inevitable. Addiction to social media, fast foods culminating into sedentary lifestyles especially among the youth is increasing incidence of chronic diseases. Furthermore, this incidences are occuring at a younger age. These among many other reasons is why I started this blog

According to WHO, chronic disease prevalence will surpass non-communicable disease in a decade. For example, Kenya has a young but aging population with those over 50 accounting for 17% of the population. By 2050 the number of adults is expected to triple from 21 million to 60 million with at least 1 in 4 individuals suffering premature death due to chronic ailments. These estimates have economic implications for countries like Kenya; with an already strained health resource and infrastructure.

Research has shown that patients who understand more about their disease and lifestyle are more empowered to manage their health. In recent years health promotion is focusing on individualistic care and self management to foster responsibility thus better outcomes and experiences.

Preventive healthcare is key to reducing NCDs incidence

When in senior years in medical school, as I attended to patients in the ward I realised many patients did not know much about chronic illnesses. Especially stroke and diabetes that were increasingly common. Even those who knew did not have conclusive information. In developed countries, older people are living longer due to technological advancements on how to acquire information. This information includes warning signs, best practices, available subsidies et cetera. Yeah! Diabetes treatment sponsorships and subsidies.

My goal is to finally set up Tenda Health as a platform for social networking, exercise program prescription tool and managent and medication adherence tool. This platform will be a wholesome platform where patients interact among their peers, talk to health professionals and are helped to monitor their symptoms through wearables.

Electronic health improve interoperability of health data.

But these I can not achieve it alone. All are invited to hop on this rather slow train and journey together on an initiative with its success guaranteeing someone a life. A like, a share or comment on how to make it better is welcomed and much appreciated.
