“Laughter is the Best Medicine (Unless You Have Diabetes and Then Insulin Is Probably Better). If you don’t, throw me a bone and tell me you loved it anyway.” Says David Greene (PhD) of Take Control of Your Diabetes (TCoYD.org) Moreover, if you can not laugh about it, what can you do?
Firstly, am a great believer in utilizing every situation whenever possible to make jokes. It lightens up moments whether a diabetic’s sugar is really low or through the roof. However, i would like to mention that this jokes are hardly mine, they are escavated from deep within the internet and deposited on this one stop location. Some might be a bit insensitive. If that happens to you, peruse through other epic pages on this blog. Furthermore it’s not intended to upset, infact it’s meant to arouse a giggle or two!

Diabetes meme from @_betweentwolines
Positive relationship between humor and coping with difficult times cannot be over-emphasised. Depression, a diabetes-related complications, can be handled therapeutically using forefront humor. In a study by Eduardo and Alvaro, humor can be a protective mechanism against diabetes associated anxiety and depression (Source) However, It is important to note that such studies were not able to determine directionality. In other words, they don’t know yet if people with good control have a better sense of humor or if people with a better sense of humor have better control.
Here are some more humor about diabetes and diabetics
“Some of them have sweet tooth, some have a sweet foot.”
This type of joke is situational for example in a diabetic talking to non-diabetic in a presentation.
Giant truck rolling around sweetly!?
Then there’s a brunch meeting with my friend Molly. She storms in, visibly frustrated about something. She settles herself and describes narrowly avoiding a giant tractor tire that broke free from a flatbed semi-truck on the freeway just minutes ago. Holy crap! Those tractor tires are huge! That would have been a tragic accident!
But you know what she was upset about? Do you know what her first thoughts were after the high-speed evasive maneuvers? She didn’t think about almost being killed by a giant tractor tire – she was mad because the surge of adrenaline was messing up her blood sugars! Ha!
Laugh youself pretty
Laughter is the best medicine, so they say. What if i told Laughing also makes you beautiful! It is thought that your skin is supplied with more oxygen through laughter. Imagine that! You can laugh yourself pretty!

Be cautious when playing mental games relating to diabetes especially when you are a non-diabetic in the presence of diabetics. Why? It triggers self-conscious ness or remind one of those bad choices preceeding diabetes. “You’ve been eating lots of cakes since teenage years” “Your step-dad warned you about it” “Here come a blood sugar…go ahead and pass out already!”
Such self-blame worsened by rising health costs makes diabetes is anything but funny. Diabetes, especially type II, can feel like personal fail and it may be. However, it not punishment for bad choices. It mainly due to cell mulfunctioning leading to reduced response to insulin. Conversely, in type I diabetes is not a choice, factors including genetics, race and age are how much it is out of our control to get diabetes.

“Keeps jokes short and sweet. Diabetics are already battling past lives and future selves” notes the masta p on Reddit.

In my own opinion, Avoid self-defeating and aggressive humor. Affiliative and self-enhancing jokes are preferable. Jokes should me light, and fit the moment. They should not nag or have bits of indignition. The following are examples of humor that suits this criteria.
1. A man goes to the hospital to see if he has diabetes.
Once he arrives, a nurse asks him for a urine sample. He complies, and moments later, the nurse comes back into the room with the results. “I’m sorry, sir, but we’ve found high traces of glucose in your urine. You’re diabetic.” She says. Disappointed, the man manages to reply, “Well, I’m still very thankful for your help today, nurse.” To which the nurse replies;
“Sure thing, sweet pee.”
2. My diabetic friend had a serious emergency last night. My bad.
I shouldn’t have texted her “Goodnight, sweet dreams” before going to bed yesterday.
